Physical Education @ Key Stage Four

Return to Physical Education Page

Physical Education continues in Years 10 and 11 as a vital element of a balanced education. It is a non-examination course with an element of choice over the sports chosen which should increase enjoyment. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning by evaluating their needs in terms of strengths and weaknesses but courses will be based on 5 elements:

A range of games will be taught, including the major outdoor games, basketball, net games and striking games.

Another area of study will involve swimming. These will include personal skills, survival techniques, rescue and resuscitation. Diving will be an area of study that students may choose to take advantage of our outstanding diving facility.

A fourth activity that all students follow will be athletics. In this area students will be expected to specialise in their strengths, developing suitable training, tactical appreciation and improvement of techniques which should enable them to improve performance.

It is envisaged that work in Year 11 will enable students to attain a Certificate of Achievement. This will reflect both attainment and commitment towards your chosen activities. It is hoped that these will both extend previous knowledge and experience and encourage students towards and independent active lifestyle.
