Physical Education @ Key Stage Three

Return to Physical Education Page

Students will work at five main areas of the national curriculum.

Dance
Students explore movement and expression in terms of rhythm and spatial awareness. The course follows various themes where students perform a combination of set dances, together with planning and creating their own pieces.

Gymnastics
Students learn to link different types of movements into sequences, including travelling, jumping, rolling, balancing and vaulting. Students learn to plan, perform and evaluate their own, and others’ work. The use of equipment is incorporated into their sequences.

Games
Winter games for boys: Rugby, Soccer and Basketball
Winter games for girls: Basketball, Hockey and Netball
Cricket, Softball and Tennis are studied during the summer, developing a good understanding of rules and tactics.

Swimming
Students concentrate on improving their stroke techniques, evaluating skills (their own and others) and basic safety principles.

Athletics
Events based on running, jumping and throwing are learned during the summer. Students record and assess their performances using the three A’s Five Star award scheme. All students receive a certificate at the end of the course.

During all of the above courses, students are taught how to prepare and warm up and how to recover afterwards. For those working at a higher level of skill competence, there will be the opportunity to represent the school in a number of sports teams.
