• Listening and practical based activities including the following:

• Elements of music - rhythm and pitch.

• Basic notation - notes on the treble clef.

• Singing as a whole year in public concerts (e.g.. Christmas).

• Composing own music.

• Studying ‘World Music’.

Students will also take a series of tests based on pitch and notation which will help with their understanding of music and their ability to read music.

Students learn how to compose, perform, listen and analyse music

• World music - calypso, Chinese, Indian
• Traditional English music
• Music management
• Music and the media
• Orchestral music
• Music and art
• signing as a whole year in the Christmas concert

In addition:

There is a large team of Peripatetic Instrumental Teachers offering a range of instruments (Brass, Woodwind, Strings, Percussion, Piano, Keyboard, Guitar).  Lessons are half an hour per week and students are charged a reasonable rate.  Students taking up an instrument, or continuing from Year 6, will be required to attend the the School Orchestra.  There is also a signing group for anyone who enjoys singing.
